The SaltLight Center is an emergency shelter providing a safe place for single women and women with children to eat, sleep and shower. It is open seven nights per week, including most holidays. It has 11 beds plus sleeping space for three infants.

Here is how you can help:

Dinner Host – Prepare or purchase a meal and bring it to the SaltLight facility which is on a church campus in Lawrenceville. The meal will need to serve a maximum of 15 people plus you and your family if you want to eat dinner with our guests. Dinner hosts can bring children if they are at least 10 years old.

Evening Host – Arrive at the Salt Light Center by 5:45 p.m., welcome guests when they arrive at 6:30 p.m and show new guests around the facility. You will stay until 9 p.m. Children accompanying adults as evenings hosts must be at least 12 years old.

Overnight Hosts – Arrive at 9 p.m. to meet the guests. At 10:00 p.m. you can retire to a bedroom which you may share with another overnight host. Wake up guests at 5:45 a.m. and set out breakfast at 6 a.m. Think of this as a slumber party with a close friend! Overnight hosts must be at least 18 years old. Your shift ends at 7 a.m. when the shelter director arrives and determines if the guests can stay and use the resource room on weekdays. All guests leave by 7 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

Day Hosts – Assist the director with light laundry, administrative work and setting out lunch for those using the resource room. Shifts are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to noon.

Volunteer training is offered each month. Contact rjones@familypromisegwinnett.org for information about the next SaltLight Center training.

Every morning we give a “Blessing Bag” to guests as they leave. This is a gallon-size bag with food & beverages for the day. See how to donate Blessing Bags and other items to the SaltLight Center.
